What has the Business Success Programme meant to you?
I’ve had to work a lot harder in the business, but the time I’ve had off, the business being a lot more profitable, I’ve been able to enjoy time with my family, which we didn’t have before. We were just surviving week to week. Although I’ve worked a lot harder in the last couple of years, the upcoming years we’re going to reap the rewards of that with the people we’ve got on board going forward and being able to rely more on them to grow the business with us, more than just myself.
It allowed us to focus on spending time training employees and things like that, as opposed to being on the tools ourselves, which enabled us to grow to a higher turnover rate to be able to finish jobs in a faster way, as opposed to what we were used to. Having to take time off the tools throughout the day to deal with admin was very inefficient, it’s allowed us to employ staff.
It probably just reduced our stress levels as a whole, to be honest. I’d say that we’re more focused on the long-term goals now as opposed to the short-term. We’re looking ahead into the future and we’re able to be a lot more strategic as to what decisions we make over the next 12 months, as opposed to just being reactionary and making decisions on the fly.
The Business Success Programme has allowed us to forecast our numbers and be a lot more confident in the decisions that we’re making because we have data and information behind those decisions.
When we took the clinic on, there were three of us one working through full-time, two working part-time, and now we’ve got seven physios covering the hours of 7:00 AM till 7:00 PM five days a week. So it’s really given us the opportunity to capitalize on time.
I suppose we’re financially more stable. I’ve been able to employ my partner Courtney to help with things and the business is in a position that can pay us both. And we’ve got good job security with the work that we’ve got now and the relationships that we’ve built. While there’s still a lot to achieve and a lot to do, working with Oxygen8 makes it a lot easier.
It’s been a great experience for me. For me personally, a big thing is peace of mind. When you’re in business, it’s so dynamic and there’s so much that’s in your control. And I think if you didn’t have a plan, it’d just be quite scary and overwhelming.
Becoming a recent business owner, I found that when I walked out the doors of the office, I didn’t instantly forget about work. It plays on your mind a lot more, and just providing that peace of mind and confidence that you’re on the right track helps a lot.
I now don’t have to work on the weekends. I don’t have to, sometimes I do anyway. So that’s freed me up to spend time with my family and my kids. I get to offer more people opportunities that they’d never get before. So I’ve got a lot of my family members and friends working in my business. And I know just hiring more people supports more families. It’s not just the 11 guys I have. It’s 66 people because everyone’s got a family. So that’s the most important thing for me.
